How Not To Look Old

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003156B4K/ref=s9_bbs_gw_d0_g14_i1?pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=center-2&pf_rd_r=093C12C8MYV1YJ4WDP38&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1688200382&pf_rd_i=507846
I bought this book: "How Not To Look Old" by Charla Krupp on Amazon for $4.28. I would have gotten it from my local library, but they didn't have it. To interlibrary loan the book it would have cost me $2.00, so I figured I would just buy it. I have looked it over and it looks like it has a lot of good ideas and thank goodness she also lists affordable options for the products she suggests using. I want to go through each chapter and try at least one if not more of her suggestions and see how it turns out for me. I have never been a big make-up user. I usually just throw on black eyeliner & mascara and I'm good to go so this will be a change for me,
 but what the heck right?????
I'll keep you updated on how things go.

Casablanca Inn, St. Augustine, FL

I just want to say if you are staying over in the St. Augustine area you have to stay at the Casablanca Inn! It is such a pretty old historic home with such character you will just LOVE it!
My husband and I spent our 29th Anniversary there and really enjoyed our time there. We were in room #5 as you can see from their website it is their smallest & cheapest room. We checked in on a Sunday during their non-peak season to get the cheapest rate for the room - I don't call this blog nifty & thrifty for nothing. The room was decorated so cute! Yes, it was small but really how much room do you need : ) It had bathrobes, 2 hairdryers, tons of extra pillows, a few extra blankets, just everything you would need for a pleasant stay. Room #5 had an awesome flat screen tv hung on the wall which we enjoyed (we don't have tv at home so this was special for us). The only draw backs we had were: 1) Right outside to the entrance to our room which was on the outside of the building they had gravel which was pretty loud when other guests were walking around in this area at all times of the night. 2) When you are trying to check in it is very hard to find a parking spot to drop off your things, once you are checked in they have a designated parking spot  not too far from the Inn for all their guests which is great if you want to take your car and go sightseeing. Also if you are into the paranormal there are stories that this home is haunted, You can read all about the "Lady with the Lantern". We weren't lucky enough to see her the night we spent there but it was fun to keep an eye out for her.... All in all we had a GREAT time and can't wait to go back!!

Until Next Time - God Bless!!

I Survived My Anniversary!

Okay I made it no broken ankles, arms, hips ect.! I was very proud of myself : ) This old gal rocked her cool looking shoes/booties (not sure what they are really called). I did grab on to my husband a bit for support now and again but I was able to walk pretty good if I say so myself. I did buy those Dr. Scholl's for her High Heel insoles to stick in my shoes to help ease me into wearing high heels - I'll talk about those inserts in another post. Here is the run down of what my outfit cost: Dress - $1.00 (bought at "A Dollars Worth" consignment store), Shoes - $2.25 (bought at "St. Vincent DE Paul Society" thrift store), Watch - $4.00, bracelet - $5.00 (both bought at the same thrift store as the shoes), Necklace - $10.00, Earrings - $10.00 (both bought new at Walmart). The entire outfit cost me a whopping $32.25!!
I will post more about the place we stayed & ate at in a future post - We sure had a great time!!
Happy 29th Anniversary Honey, let's drink to many more : )

Until Next Time - God Bless!!

Thrift Store Find - Zigi soho boots

I found these Zigi soho boots priced at $3.00, the thrift store was running 25% off on everything, so I got them for $2.25 - Woo Hoo! I LOVE them! I have NEVER been the high heel wearing kinda gal in the past so I don't really know how to walk correctly in them, but the new me wants to give it a go : ) I'm taking them on my wedding anniversary trip up to St. Augustine tomorrow, I'm guessing the cobblestone walk ways up there are not going to be easy to maneuver but what the heck I'll give it my best shot. I do have to mention that I noticed that the "leather" is starting to chip off in spots, I need to look up shoe care and see if in the future when I buy such types of shoes if they don't need to be treated with something to help preserve them from such damage. It seems a shame that something that must have cost a lot of money new would not hold up over the years - Maybe I should contact Zigi soho and ask them.... I'll update you on how things go on my weekend away, unless of course I brake an ankle wearing my new boots : )
Until Next Time - God Bless!!

Welcome to 50 & Beyond : )

My first post on my new journey of trying to be fabulous during my 50's and beyond!
A little background on me, I turned the dreaded 50 on April 7, 2013. It hit me HARD to put it mildly. I am pretty shocked at how I have handled it so far... there have been great days and days when I have felt so depressed. It just seems to me I have just woken up and here I am 50, the best years behind me. I was so busy living my day to day life that I don't even remember where it all years went - which I find so sad! But enough with all the wallowing and onto the next chapter of my life. I feel both excited and nervous about life in my 50's, but like they say 50 is the new 40 right? : )
